While I waited for the time-lapse on top of Clingmans Dome, I decided to play around with stills of the Milky Way. I've never been able to capture the Milky Way before so when I saw it come through on the back of the camera I was incredibly pumped.

This was a fun adventure. Had to battle clouds and condensation on the lens but it was still an awesome experience.

I wanted to do a time-lapse like this for a long time. I found the perfect day (that turned out not so perfect) and headed to Clingmans Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to capture this.
I spent 6 hours, battled fog and condensation on the lens, to get this time-lapse. It's not perfect but I really like how it turned out.

Lone Star
Right before I packed up and left this spot, this lone star (maybe it's a planet or something else, I don't really know) in the sky caught my eye. I was intrigued by the bright light in the sky over the fading sunset and thought it would make an interesting vertical shot.

After working on the star trail photo I posted yesterday I started thinking about making a moving version of it.
I had to slow this down because 100 layers only gives you about 4 seconds but I thought it was cool to see the trails grow.

Star trail over Monroe Station
The 100 layer challenge has been a thing recently on the internet and I wanted to jump on the bandwagon. This is 100 photos layered to make star trails over Monroe Station.

Monroe Station, Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida
This is Monroe Station. It's one of my favorite photos I've ever taken. Monroe Station was built in the 20's, served as one of the first gas stations on the Tamiami Trail, a sheriff's outpost and in 2005 was named a national historical site.
Tragically it was burned to the ground on April 9th after an idiot climbed on the roof and attempted to light paint (lighting steel wool on fire and spinning it) while his friends took photos below.
It's strange to feel sadness for a building that I've only been to a few times in my life. But sitting in the dark in front of this place on a cold January night, looking up at the stars will be a memory I'll keep with me forever.
