This photo was taken in the same spot as the video I posted last week. I love the look of the smooth water caused by dragging out the shutter.

Green Heron
I found this Green Heron preening on a branch in this beautiful morning light. He was nice enough to stop long enough for me to capture this photo.
Abandoned building along a country road.
My favorite part of having to drive through farms and small towns to get to different nature locations is running into places like this. This building was sitting abandoned on the side of the road surrounded by farms.
I don’t know what it is about abandoned buildings that I love so much. It might be the mystery. What was this building used for? How long has it been here? How long will it continue to stand?
Maybe what I like the most is that I have no answers and never will.

Great Blue Heron
This Blue Heron was nice enough to stand near perfectly still for me while I captured this image. I hung around and waited for a bit while the sun sank below the horizon hoping to capture this Heron grab some dinner. But alas, it stayed pretty much still until it was time for me to head out.

Great Blue Heron flying over water.
This big Great Blue Heron flew past me like a stealth bomber on its was to destroy its target. It was amazing how big it is yet was so fast and silent.
It ended up settling under a canopy of trees hanging over the cove, trying to scrounge up some dinner as the sun dipped lower in the sky.

This beautiful Great Egret patiently stalked around this cove of Bledsoe Creek State Park looking for dinner. She (I actually have no idea if it’s a he or she) turned out to be quite the prolific hunter capturing two fish during the 30 mins or so that I spent with her.
Great Egret eating a fish as on an early summer evening.
This is the second catch of the evening for this Great Egret.
This was a quiet early summer morning on the lake. The water was dead still outside of the odd boat that went by every 10 minutes or so. Geese circled the lake while a large amount of other birds (species unknown to me) dipped and dived between the trees along the edge of the lake. This was my first trip to Edgar Evins State Park but I will absolutely be coming back.

Pileated Woodpecker
I found this pileated woodpecker early in the morning hunting for breakfast in the trunk of a fallen tree.
I was surprised to see him pecking on a tree on the ground. He didn’t really seem to mind me hanging around and watching him, so I got to spend a little bit of time with him before he moved off into the woods behind him.

While I sat by the water watching the sun sink behind the mangrove islands in the distance, a pod of dolphins swam by.
It’s incredible how effortlessly they cut through the water, coming up for air for a second before slipping back under the water.

Without many clouds in the sky, darkness fell from above like a sheet covering the little bit of orange that was still illuminating the sky.
