Sunset to Milky Way Time-lapse by Dennis Bernhard

I wanted to do a time-lapse like this for a long time. I found the perfect day (that turned out not so perfect) and headed to Clingmans Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to capture this.

I spent 6 hours, battled fog and condensation on the lens, to get this time-lapse. It's not perfect but I really like how it turned out.

Have you been to Clingmans Dome before? What's your favorite part?

Pacific Ocean Landscape by Dennis Bernhard

Day gives way to night

This was my favorite still from the time-lapse I posted yesterday. There's so much happening that I don't normally get to see.

Beyond the deep intense orange giving way to the deep blue, in this photo you can see Catalina Island to the left, two oil rigs toward the middle and Long Beach to the right.

I like how the lights of the city line the water, waiting patiently for the full darkness of night to come.

Pacific Ocean Sunset Time-lapse by Dennis Bernhard

I had to go to California for work last week. Since I was there, I stole a little time and went to the Newport Bach Pier for sunset.

I've spent a good amount of time out west for work but I had never actually been to the beach, so it was a lot of fun playing with the Pacific for a sunset time-lapse.

The sunset sank faster than I thought it would so I didn't get a great shot of it, but I did love the way the sky slowly turned from orange to a deep blue.

Off in the distance you can see Catalina Island and oil rigs, which is a strange combination for me.

I'm going back in a couple weeks and hope to do some more time-lapses.

Harvest Moon by Dennis Bernhard

Fall Full Moon

This is the same full moon as the photo I posted a few days ago. In this photo my goal was to focus solely on the moon and try to get some of the geographical features to show.

The moon is one of my favorite subjects to photograph because it can look so different depending on how you approach the photo.

Next I'd like to experiment with some really long lenses to get a really up close view.

What's your favorite photo of the moon?

Full Moon Rising by Dennis Bernhard

Full Moon Rising

I spent an early fall evening perched on top of a hospital parking garage hunting a full moon. This was a fun photo to make. I really had to earn it.

There was a thick layer of clouds right on the horizon that I knew would be trouble. I was hoping the moon would either break through or the clouds would thin out.

I waited impatiently as the minutes ticked by. Just as I was about to lose hope, I could see a sliver of the orange moon peeking through the clouds.

It wasn't my ideal framing, but the new Westin hotel with the ever present Nashville cranes made a nice setting for a bright orange full moon.

I'll definitely be back at this spot, especially for a sunrise.

Narrows Of The Harpeth Hike by Dennis Bernhard

The best part about this park and the hike is that it's only a half hour away from Nashville but you really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The hike is pretty steep but not too bad. And when you get to the top, the view is well worth it.

Narrows Of The Harpeth by Dennis Bernhard

Narrows Of The Harpeth State Park

This is a great spot right outside of Nashville along the Harpeth River. I ventured out here on a Sunday afternoon after hearing about this spot from a coworker.

It's a pretty secluded spot, but still easily accessible. You even get to drive down a gravel road to feel like you're really out in the wild.

The hike isn't very technical, but it is a very steep grade. Don't fret though, the view from the top is well worth it.

Have you ever been here? Where's your favorite place to go to be with nature?
