This was a beautiful (but still hot) December afternoon in Ft. Lauderdale. Despite the very loud bell it was a lot of fun capturing the Harmony of the Seas leaving port.

Large ships, especially cruise ships have always boggled my mind. I just don't understand how something so large can float, be so nimble and be so fast. And yes, I understand the science of it, but it still makes no sense to me.
The view from the bridge at Port Everglades gives you the perfect vantage point to watch these giants ships leave port in a coordinated ballet.

At the end of a beautiful but cold and wet hike, you get this amazing reward. A winter wonderland of ice and snow. Of flowing water over ledges and levels. Of swirling pools and rocks.
This photo zooms in on the upper portion of the falls. I like how the vertical orientation aligns with the flow of the water and allows you to get a better look at how the water freezes and clings to the rocks.
This photo is a zoom of the left side of the falls. I wanted to highlight this area because it gets less water fall and that allows the ice to accumulate more and have a different feel.
These are my three favorite photos of the day. Let me know what you think.

Need a couple minutes to relax next to a beautiful babbling creek crisp with fresh frozen ice? Just hit play.

We had a couple week long cold snap in Nashville which led to the waterfalls in the area freezing over. Cummins Falls is my favorite waterfall so when I heard it was frozen I had to go check it out.
The hike in wasn't too bad, besides my pants freezing. All of the ice gave the fall and the surrounding area a winter wonderland feel.

Frozen Cummins Falls is like a winter wonderland. Large icicles reaching down from the top of the falls cover the many ledges and levels. The ever present water continues to flow over the pure white ice which pops off of the brown rock surrounding it.
Have you ever been to a frozen waterfall?

This stretch of Route 66 in California is flat and fast. The newly paved and painted road not only makes for nice photos, its makes for a flying sensation as you speed across the desert.
Oatman Highway is rocky and rough. The curves are fun to drive, with just a touch of fear from the sheer cliffs. Off to the side are these rocky outcrops.
This is a short but extremely fun portion of Route 66. I love the combination of the road going downhill, curving, then disappearing around the bend.
This is my favorite photo from the entire trip. The road provides an interesting foreground. The rocky outcrop in the middle leads to the mountain range and the clouds in the background.

This was an interesting last day of the trip. I had a stand off with a donkey, played in the desert, got to drive my favorite road of the entire trip and ultimately make it all the way to the Pacific Ocean after sitting through a lot of frustrating traffic.

This was a fun day in Arizona. All of the photos below were taken on the same incredible day.
The Painted Desert is vast, so colorful and so outer worldly, I almost didn't know how to capture it. I felt the panorama did a good job of capturing how vast it is. The next two photos do a great job of showing the colors and varied the landscape is.
A little down the road from the Painted Desert is a Martian landscape. Rock formations, dry cracked clay surface and shrubs seem to go on forever.
This range ran along side Route 66 for miles. I loved how the setting sun light up the range and the clouds as they ran by.
I'm not a huge Eagles fan, but it was very cool to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona and see all of the tributes to the song by The Eagles.
Today was full of incredible landscapes that I had never seen before. Petrified Forrest National Park was like driving onto Mars. Every turn revealed colors, rock formations, vistas and just plain awe inspiring beauty that is a world unto itself.
