I love the Hollywood Bowl Overlook so much that I went back the next morning for sunrise. The weather gods were fickle this morning. Downtown was shrouded in fog but it led to some amazing colors.

I wanted to shoot this for a long time. I finally got the time and sun lined up and made it happen one July morning.
The difference between night and morning on Broadway is striking. The peacefulness of the still street, hiding the debauchery of the night before, is amazing.
Also - my favorite ball of fire climbing above the tree line to look down the empty street.

After a little bit of a run in with a truck, I finally got to see it. The orange ball that I love so much climbed above the trees on the horizon and looked right down Broadway. Lighting the empty, partially wet street in beautiful, orange morning light.

The sky begins to come to life
It wasn’t the most beautiful sunrise. There were no layers of color. Just a muddy orange color.
But the neon lights kept humming. And standing in an almost still Broadway continued to be a strangely peaceful experience.

The neon lights of Broadway shine bright while the streets are empty.
Broadway is an incredible place. Normally packed with people and music pouring out of every honkey tonk. It’s a very fun night out on the town.
But early in the morning before the sun comes up, it’s still and peaceful. The neon lights hum softly as a few employees finish cleaning and locking up for the night.

This was a great second day in Seattle. This view of downtown has everything you can ask for. Buildings, water, motion, mountains, clouds and most importantly, a clear view of the setting sun.
It all worked together to give me a little glimpse into the complexity of a beautiful city like Seattle.

Night falls over downtown Seattle
As night started to creep in the lights in the buildings started to shine through. Headlights and taillights from vehicles started to make beautiful trails. The colors in the sky became deep oranges and purples.
It was a beautiful view to take in.

Century Link Field at sunset
I like this image for a couple reasons. I think the stadium has a cool look with the two arches going across the span. Combine that with mountains in the background and the sky turning a soft peach, I thought it made for a great photo.

This was a fun time-lapse to shoot. I really love the way the roller coaster and ferris wheel turned out against the orange glow of the setting sun.

The World-Famous Pacific Park against the setting sun.
I’ve wanted to create this photo for a while and it came together perfectly. The lights and motion of the rides set against a background of dark clouds and a setting sun.
I still find it astonishing that there is a theme park on a pier, but it sure it pretty.
